New Balance Break the Mould with MADE 997 for 'Grey Day'Release: 5 September 2019
After nearly 30 years in the game, the New Balance 997 is adding a new 'Made in USA' chapter to its legendary legacy as part of the brand’s 'Grey Day' celebrations in 2019.
A stunning ode to designer Steven Smith's magnus opus, this new MADE 997 offers sneakerheads a quirky dose of the time-tested style that propelled the iconic silhouette to legend status. The upper is cut from plush pigskin suede in trademark grey tones, while the 90s vibe is elevated further with that plump midsole infused with ENCAP and C-CAP cushioning. Despite the familiar feels, there’s a crucial alteration – the ever-present ‘N’ logo has made way for a distinctive ‘New Balance Made in USA’ embroidery riding high on the saddle.
Shying away from the searing colour schemes popular in the 1980s, New Balance has long favoured subtle shades of grey on many of their models due to its innate ability to survive muddy trails and damp conditions. Since those early days, the brand has made grey a key part of its corporate manifesto, festooning it over classic footwear that blurs the lines between performance and lifestyle. There isn't a New Balance shoe that doesn't look utterly perfect in grey!
The MADE 997 and 997S drops in very limited numbers alongside Grey Day apparel on September 5. Enjoy the gala of grey!
